California Desert

This trip took Anna and me through the Owens Valley (best known as LA’s unwilling water source), Death Valley, and the Mojave National Preserve.

The Preserve is a crazy place, with some of the most breathtakingly gorgeous terrain I’ve ever seen. Not a park to underestimate — there are few amenities to speak of, the camping is primitive, and you can expect long distances between points of interest, no gas, and a constant overriding feeling that if an alien abduction were to happen, it would happen here. But not a park to miss, either.

We started and ended in Vegas, which is what it is. LA would’ve taken an even higher emotional toll.
